Connal Tours Wheatbelt Cycling Tour WA #1 in the Autumn of 2021 (when travel restrictions were wearing us down) - a 5-day, 510km, 3170vm road cycling tour through the mid wheatbelt of Western Australia. We rounded up some friends & took them on a cycle touring adventure – The Wheatbelt Pub Crawl. We met the locals in small rural communities and stayed in some iconic old hotels (pubs) along the way. Travelling by bicycle, to truly experience this wide landscape - seeing, hearing and feeling our surroundings as we pass through. Toodyay, Goomalling, Dowerin, Wyalkatchem, Yelbeni, Trayning, Kununoppin, Nungarin, Bruce Rock, Ardath, Shackleton, Kwolyin, Pantapin, Qairading, Greenhills, York, Spencers Brook, finally returning to Toodyay.
Connal Tours T1 Episode 1 Day 1: Cycling from Toodyay to Wyalkatchem via Jennacubbine, Goomalling & Dowerin. 111km (1100vm). We were absorbed in the huge open spaces, discovered some history, supported rural businesses, heard some stories, visited old stomping grounds, stayed in some classic old pubs, and had some fun with good friends. Connal Tours T1 Episode 2 Day 2: Cycling from Wyalkatchem to Nungarin via Yelbeni, Trayning, Kununoppin. 79km.
Connal Tours T1 Episode 3 Day 3: Cycling from Nungarin to Ardath via Hines HIll and Bruce Rock. 103km. As this was a Sunday and also ANZAC day we were able to attend the ANZAC service in Nungarin before heading south. This was very special as it is conducted at their Military Museum and preceded by a Sunday morning breakfast cookup.
Connal Tours T1 Episode 4 Day 4: Cycling from Ardath to Greenhills via Shackleton, Kwolyin, Pantapin, Quairading, Dangin and Mawson. 124km. Our tour guide Greg originated from these parts and so was able to take us off the road to little known places, tell us some yarns and incredibly meet locals who still recognised him.
Connal Tours T1 Episode 5 Day 5: Cycling from Greenhills to Toodyay via York, Spencers Brook and Clackline. 91km (546vm) This completed our 5 days cycling tour returning to our starting point of Toodyay.
